Born on August 20, 1949, in Bucharest, Romania, Andreescu showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. He studied at the George Enescu Music High School in Bucharest and later at the National University of Music in Bucharest, where he received his degree in violin performance. After completing his studies, Andreescu began his career as a violinist, performing with various orchestras in Romania and abroad. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and was invited to perform as a soloist with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. In the early 1980s, Andreescu decided to shift his focus from violin performance to conducting. He studied conducting with some of the most renowned conductors of the time, including Sergiu Celibidache and Herbert von Karajan. In 1985, he was appointed the principal conductor of the Romanian National Radio Orchestra, a position he held for over a decade. During his tenure with the Romanian National Radio Orchestra, Andreescu gained international recognition for his exceptional conducting skills. He conducted numerous concerts and recordings with the orchestra, including works by Romanian composers such as George Enescu and Dinu Lipatti. He also collaborated with some of the world's most renowned soloists, including Yehudi Menuhin, Maxim Vengerov, and Martha Argerich. In 1997, Andreescu was appointed the principal conductor of the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra in Bucharest, a position he held until 2013. During his tenure with the orchestra, he conducted numerous concerts and recordings, including works by George Enescu, Johannes Brahms, and Ludwig van Beethoven. He also collaborated with some of the world's most renowned soloists, including Radu Lupu, Gidon Kremer, and Mischa Maisky.
