Clara Mouriz is a Spanish mezzo-soprano who has established herself as one of the most versatile and exciting classical music artists of her generation. Born in Madrid in 1978, Mouriz grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. She began her formal musical training at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, where she studied piano and singing. Mouriz's talent as a singer was quickly recognized, and she was awarded a scholarship to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. There, she worked with some of the most renowned vocal coaches and teachers in the world, including Susan McCulloch, Rudolf Piernay, and Graham Johnson. After completing her studies, Mouriz began to establish herself as a professional singer, performing in concerts and operas throughout Europe. Her breakthrough came in 2003, when she won the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Award, which is given annually to a young British singer with exceptional talent. Since then, Mouriz has gone on to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Mouriz's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by composers from the Baroque era to the present day. She is particularly known for her interpretations of Spanish and Latin American music, and has recorded several albums of this repertoire, including "Songs of Spain" and "Songs of Latin America." One of Mouriz's most memorable performances was her portrayal of the title role in George Frideric Handel's opera "Ariodante" at the Royal Opera House in London in 2014. The production was directed by Richard Jones and conducted by Ivor Bolton, and received critical acclaim for its innovative staging and Mouriz's powerful performance. Mouriz has also been recognized for her work as a recitalist, and has given many acclaimed performances of lieder and art songs. In 2016, she released an album of songs by the Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo, which was praised for its sensitivity and emotional depth.
