Jongmin Park is a South Korean bass-baritone opera singer who has gained international recognition for his powerful voice and commanding stage presence. Born on October 25, 1984, in Seoul, South Korea, Park grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. His parents were both amateur singers, and his father played the guitar, which inspired Park to pursue a career in music. Park's talent was evident from an early age, and he began studying classical music at the age of 15. He attended the Seoul National University of Arts, where he studied under the renowned bass-baritone singer, Kim Kwang-soo. After completing his studies, Park went on to win several prestigious awards, including the Grand Prize at the 2007 Dong-A Music Competition and the First Prize at the 2008 JoongAng Music Concours. Park's career took off in 2009 when he won the Grand Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, Russia. This was a major achievement for Park, as the Tchaikovsky Competition is one of the most prestigious music competitions in the world. His performance of "Ella giammai m'amo" from Verdi's "Don Carlo" was particularly impressive, and it helped to establish him as a rising star in the world of classical music. He made his debut at the Royal Opera House in London in 2010, playing the role of Colline in Puccini's "La Bohème." He also performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Paris Opera, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Park's repertoire includes a wide range of operatic roles, from Mozart's "Don Giovanni" to Wagner's "The Flying Dutchman." He is particularly known for his performances of Verdi's operas, including "Don Carlo," "Aida," and "Nabucco."
