Tommy Körberg is a Swedish singer and actor who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Born on July 4, 1948, in Norsjö, Sweden, Körberg grew up in a musical family. His father was a jazz musician, and his mother was a singer. Körberg started playing the guitar at a young age and soon developed a passion for music. Körberg's career in music began in the 1960s when he joined a band called "The West Bay Singers." The band performed covers of popular songs and gained a following in Sweden. In 1969, Körberg left the band to pursue a solo career. He released his first album, "Nature Boy," in 1972, which was a collection of jazz and pop songs. In the 1970s, Körberg became a household name in Sweden when he played the lead role in the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar." The musical was a huge success, and Körberg's performance was praised by critics and audiences alike. He went on to star in several other musicals, including "Chess" and "Les Misérables." Körberg's success in musical theater led to opportunities in classical music. In 1988, he was chosen to represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Stad i ljus." The song, which was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA, won third place and became a hit in Sweden and other European countries. Körberg's success in the Eurovision Song Contest led to more opportunities in classical music. He released several albums of classical music, including "Tommy Körberg sjunger Andrew Lloyd Webber" (Tommy Körberg sings Andrew Lloyd Webber) and "Jag skulle vilja tänka en underbar tanke" (I would like to think a wonderful thought). In 1990, Körberg was awarded the Royal Medal of the 8th size with the ribbon of the Order of the Seraphim for his contributions to Swedish music. He has also been awarded the Swedish Music Publishers Association's prize for best interpretation of a Swedish song and the Swedish Society of Songwriters, Composers and Authors' prize for best interpretation of a Swedish song. Körberg has continued to perform and record music throughout his career. In 2000, he released the album "Songs for Drinkers and Other Thinkers," which was a collection of songs by Swedish singer-songwriter Cornelis Vreeswijk. In 2013, he released the album "Gränslös - Tommy Körberg sjunger Lars Forssell" (Boundless - Tommy Körberg sings Lars Forssell), which was a tribute to the Swedish poet Lars Forssell. In addition to his music career, Körberg has also acted in several films and television shows. He has appeared in the films "The New Land" and "The Emigrants" and the television series "Rederiet" and "Solsidan." Tommy Körberg's contributions to classical music have made him one of Sweden's most beloved artists. His powerful voice and emotive performances have captivated audiences around the world, and his legacy in music will continue to inspire future generations of musicians.
