He was the son of the famous Swedish composer and conductor, Nils Ramel, and his wife, Greta Ramel. Povel Ramel grew up in a musical family and was exposed to classical music from a young age. He began playing the piano at the age of six and later learned to play the guitar and the accordion. Povel Ramel attended the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he studied composition and piano. He graduated in 1944 and began his career as a composer and performer. He quickly gained popularity in Sweden for his unique style of music, which combined classical music with comedy and satire. One of Povel Ramel's most famous works is the song "Johanssons boogie-woogie vals," which he composed in 1945. The song became an instant hit in Sweden and is still popular today. It is a lively and upbeat tune that combines elements of boogie-woogie and classical music. In addition to his music, Povel Ramel was also known for his comedy and satire. He often used his music to poke fun at Swedish society and politics. One of his most famous comedy sketches is "Fem myror är fler än fyra elefanter," which translates to "Five ants are more than four elephants." The sketch was a parody of a popular educational program for children and became a cultural phenomenon in Sweden. Povel Ramel continued to compose and perform throughout his career, releasing numerous albums and performing in concerts and on television. He also wrote music for films and television shows, including the popular Swedish TV series "Pippi Longstocking." One of Povel Ramel's most significant achievements was his contribution to the Swedish language. He was known for his clever wordplay and often created new words and phrases that became part of the Swedish language. For example, he coined the term "kulturtant," which means "culture aunt" and is used to describe someone who is overly interested in culture and the arts. Povel Ramel was also a philanthropist and was involved in numerous charitable organizations throughout his life. He was particularly passionate about supporting children's charities and was a longtime supporter of UNICEF. Povel Ramel passed away on June 5, 2007, at the age of 85. He left behind a legacy as one of Sweden's most beloved composers and performers. His music and comedy continue to be celebrated in Sweden and around the world, and his contributions to the Swedish language and culture are still felt today.More....
