Born on July 10, 1959, in High Point, North Carolina, Griffey grew up in a musical family and began singing in church at a young age. His father was a choir director, and his mother was a pianist, which helped to foster his love for music. Griffey attended Wingate University in North Carolina, where he studied music and voice. He later went on to earn a Master of Music degree from East Carolina University. After completing his studies, Griffey began his professional career as a soloist with the North Carolina Symphony and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. In 1989, Griffey made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, playing the role of Lennie in Carlisle Floyd's opera "Of Mice and Men." This performance marked the beginning of a long and successful career for Griffey, who has since become one of the most sought-after tenors in the world of classical music. Over the years, Griffey has performed in some of the most prestigious opera houses and concert halls around the world, including the Royal Opera House in London, the Paris Opera, the Berlin State Opera, and the Vienna State Opera. He has also performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
