He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a singer. From a young age, Gatto showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He later learned to play the violin and the cello. Gatto's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He attended the Conservatory of Naples, where he studied under the renowned cellist Antonio Janigro. Gatto quickly became known for his exceptional talent and was awarded several scholarships to continue his studies abroad. In 2005, Gatto moved to the United States to attend the Juilliard School in New York City. He studied under the tutelage of cellist Joel Krosnick and quickly established himself as one of the school's most promising students. During his time at Juilliard, Gatto won several awards, including the prestigious Juilliard Concerto Competition. After graduating from Juilliard in 2009, Gatto began performing professionally. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile cellist, capable of playing a wide range of musical styles. He performed with several orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. In 2012, Gatto was invited to perform at the prestigious Salzburg Festival in Austria. He performed a solo recital, which was met with critical acclaim. The following year, he was invited to perform at the BBC Proms in London, where he played the cello concerto by Edward Elgar. Gatto's career continued to flourish, and he became known for his innovative and experimental approach to classical music. He collaborated with several contemporary composers, including John Adams and Philip Glass, and performed several world premieres of new works. In 2016, Gatto was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. The award recognized his exceptional talent and his contributions to the world of classical music. Gatto continued to perform and record throughout his career, releasing several critically acclaimed albums. He was known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring new life to classical works.
