Frances Magnes was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Frances showed a natural talent for music and began taking piano lessons at the age of four. Frances attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied piano under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. During her time at Juilliard, Frances won numerous awards and competitions, including the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. After graduating from Juilliard, Frances embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist, performing in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. She has also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Frances's most memorable performances was her debut at Carnegie Hall in 2008, where she performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the New York Philharmonic. The performance was met with critical acclaim, with The New York Times describing Frances's playing as "exquisite" and "virtuosic." In addition to her concert performances, Frances has also recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of Chopin's complete Nocturnes. The album was praised for Frances's sensitive and nuanced interpretation of the pieces, with Gramophone magazine calling it "a revelatory recording." Frances has also been recognized for her contributions to the world of classical music, receiving numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 2012, she was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional talent and promise. She was also named a Steinway Artist in 2014, joining a select group of pianists who are recognized for their excellence in performance and dedication to the instrument. Despite her success, Frances remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform regularly and is committed to sharing her love of classical music with audiences around the world.
