He was the youngest of six children in a family of musicians. His father, Dimitar Kaludov, was a well-known opera singer, and his mother, Maria Kaludova, was a pianist. Kaludi grew up in a musical environment and started singing at a young age. Kaludi Kaludov's musical education began at the State Academy of Music in Sofia, where he studied under the guidance of Professor Hristo Brambarov. He graduated with honors in 1957 and made his debut at the Sofia Opera House the same year, singing the role of Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata. His performance was well-received, and he quickly became a rising star in the Bulgarian opera scene. In 1958, Kaludi Kaludov won first prize at the International Singing Competition in Toulouse, France, which launched his international career. He went on to perform in some of the world's most prestigious opera houses, including the Royal Opera House in London, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and La Scala in Milan. He was known for his powerful voice, impeccable technique, and dramatic stage presence. One of Kaludi Kaludov's most memorable performances was in the title role of Verdi's Otello at the Metropolitan Opera in 1979. His portrayal of the tragic hero was praised by critics and audiences alike, and he received a standing ovation at the end of the performance. He also performed in other Verdi operas, such as Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, and Aida, as well as in works by Puccini, Donizetti, and Mozart. Kaludi Kaludov was also a prolific recording artist, with over 50 albums to his name. He recorded complete operas, as well as recitals of arias and songs. His recordings of Bulgarian folk songs and traditional music were particularly popular, and he was known for his efforts to promote Bulgarian culture and music around the world. In addition to his successful career as an opera singer, Kaludi Kaludov was also a respected voice teacher. He taught at the State Academy of Music in Sofia, where he had studied, and his students included some of Bulgaria's most promising young singers. Kaludi Kaludov received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Order of Cyril and Methodius, Bulgaria's highest civilian honor, and the title of People's Artist of Bulgaria. He was also a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Kaludi Kaludov passed away on December 11, 2000, at the age of 67. He left behind a legacy as one of Bulgaria's greatest opera singers and a beloved figure in the world of classical music.
