Born in Sydney, Australia, on August 22, 1974, Chee grew up in a family of musicians. Her father, Richard Chee, was a violinist, and her mother, Margaret Chee, was a pianist. Chee's parents recognized her talent for music at a young age and encouraged her to pursue it. Chee began playing the violin at the age of three and started taking lessons from her father.
