Role:EnsembleThe Castellani-Andriaccio Duo is a classical music duo consisting of Joanne Castellani on guitar and Michael Andriaccio on flute. The duo has been performing together for over 30 years and has become one of the most renowned classical music duos in the world. Joanne Castellani was born in Buffalo, New York in 1953. She began playing the guitar at the age of 10 and went on to study at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. After graduating, she continued her studies with the renowned guitarist Andrés Segovia in Spain. Castellani has won numerous awards throughout her career, including the prestigious Naumburg Award in 1979. Michael Andriaccio was born in Buffalo, New York in 1954. He began playing the flute at the age of 9 and went on to study at the Eastman School of Music. After graduating, he continued his studies with the renowned flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal in France. Andriaccio has also won numerous awards throughout his career, including the prestigious Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1979. Castellani and Andriaccio first met in 1981 when they were both performing at a music festival in New York. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and decided to form a duo. They made their debut performance in 1984 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Since then, the Castellani-Andriaccio Duo has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. They have also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. The duo has recorded numerous albums throughout their career, including "Italian Serenade," "Spanish Serenade," and "French Serenade." Their recordings have received critical acclaim and have been praised for their technical virtuosity and musical sensitivity. In addition to their performances and recordings, the Castellani-Andriaccio Duo is also committed to music education. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops at universities and music schools throughout the world, and have mentored numerous young musicians. The Castellani-Andriaccio Duo has received numerous awards and honors throughout their career. In 1996, they were awarded the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra's Outstanding Musician Award. In 2001, they were awarded the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 2014, they were inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame.
