Gateway Chamber Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2002 in Nashville, Tennessee. The ensemble is made up of a group of highly skilled musicians who are dedicated to performing chamber music at the highest level. The ensemble has become known for its innovative programming and its commitment to bringing classical music to new audiences. The founding members of Gateway Chamber Ensemble were flutist Jessica Dunnavant, clarinetist Laura Ross, and pianist Megan Gale. The three musicians had all studied at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University and had a shared passion for chamber music. They decided to form an ensemble that would allow them to explore the rich repertoire of chamber music and to share their love of classical music with others. Over the years, the ensemble has grown and evolved, with new members joining and others leaving. Today, the core members of Gateway Chamber Ensemble are flutist Jessica Dunnavant, clarinetist Laura Ross, violinist Cornelia Heard, violist Elisabeth Small, and cellist Felix Wang. These musicians are all highly respected performers in their own right, and together they form a powerful and dynamic ensemble. One of the highlights of Gateway Chamber Ensemble's career was their performance at the 2006 National Flute Association Convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The ensemble was invited to perform as part of the convention's chamber music showcase, and their performance was met with great acclaim. The ensemble's innovative programming, which included works by living composers as well as more traditional repertoire, was particularly well-received. In 2008, Gateway Chamber Ensemble released their debut album, "The Nashville Album," which featured works by Nashville-based composers. The album was praised for its high level of musicianship and its commitment to showcasing the work of local composers. The ensemble's second album, "American Chamber Music," was released in 2011 and featured works by American composers from the 20th and 21st centuries. In addition to their recordings, Gateway Chamber Ensemble has performed at numerous festivals and concert series throughout the United States. They have been featured performers at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, the Tennessee Arts Academy, and the Nashville Chamber Music Series, among others. The ensemble has also collaborated with a number of other musicians and ensembles, including the Blair String Quartet and the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. Gateway Chamber Ensemble has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2009, they were awarded the Nashville Scene's "Best Classical Ensemble" award, and in 2010 they were named "Best Chamber Music Group" by the Nashville Music Awards. The ensemble has also been featured on National Public Radio's "Performance Today" program and has been praised by critics for their virtuosic playing and innovative programming.
