Birth:1979 in Tel Aviv, IsraelPeriod:RomanticContemporaryModernInon Barnatan is a renowned classical pianist who has captivated audiences around the world with his virtuosic performances and insightful interpretations of the classical repertoire. Born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1979, Barnatan began playing the piano at the age of three and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with renowned pianist Victor Derevianko at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv, and later with Maria João Pires in Portugal. Barnatan's career as a professional pianist began to take off in the early 2000s, when he won several prestigious competitions, including the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels and the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Tel Aviv. These victories brought him to the attention of the classical music world, and he soon began to receive invitations to perform with major orchestras and at major festivals around the world. One of Barnatan's most notable performances came in 2009, when he made his debut with the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Alan Gilbert. The performance was widely praised for Barnatan's sensitive and nuanced interpretation of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1, and it helped to establish him as one of the leading pianists of his generation. Since then, Barnatan has continued to perform with major orchestras and at major festivals around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Salzburg Festival. He has also collaborated with many of the world's leading musicians, including cellist Alisa Weilerstein, violinist Joshua Bell, and conductor Sir Antonio Pappano. In addition to his work as a performer, Barnatan is also a passionate advocate for classical music education and outreach. He has worked with organizations such as the New York Philharmonic's Very Young Composers program and the Music for Food initiative, which raises money for hunger relief through classical music concerts. Barnatan's recordings have also received critical acclaim, with his 2012 album of Schubert's late piano works being named one of the best classical recordings of the year by The New York Times. He has also recorded works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Ravel, among others. Throughout his career, Barnatan has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 2015, he was named the inaugural Artist-in-Association of the New York Philharmonic, a position that allowed him to curate and perform in a series of concerts with the orchestra. He has also been awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award, and the Lincoln Center's Martin E. Segal Award, among others. Despite his many accomplishments, Barnatan remains committed to exploring new musical horizons and pushing the boundaries of classical music. He continues to perform and record regularly, and his passion for the art form is evident in every note he plays.More....
