He was the youngest of three children born to his parents, who were both musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Paliev grew up in a musical household and began playing the piano at a young age. Paliev's talent for music was evident from an early age, and he began studying at the Plovdiv Music School when he was just six years old. He continued his studies at the Sofia State Conservatory, where he studied under some of Bulgaria's most renowned musicians, including Pancho Vladigerov and Lyubomir Pipkov. Paliev's talent as a pianist quickly became apparent, and he began performing in public when he was just 12 years old. He won his first competition when he was 14, and by the time he was 18, he had won several national and international competitions. In 1955, Paliev graduated from the Sofia State Conservatory with honors, and he began his professional career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained a reputation as one of Bulgaria's most talented musicians, and he began performing throughout Europe and the United States. Paliev's performances were always highly acclaimed, and he received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1958, he won the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Geneva, Switzerland. He also won the First Prize at the International Piano Competition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1961. Paliev's performances were not limited to solo piano recitals. He also performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Bulgarian composers, including Vladigerov and Pipkov. Paliev's career spanned several decades, and he continued to perform and record well into his later years. He was also a respected teacher, and he taught at the Sofia State Conservatory for many years. Many of his students went on to have successful careers as musicians. Paliev was known not only for his talent as a pianist but also for his dedication to promoting Bulgarian music and culture.
