Ensemble Odyssee
Artist Info

Ensemble Odyssee is a classical music ensemble that specializes in performing music from the Baroque era. The ensemble was founded in 2009 by three musicians: Anna Stegmann, Georg Fritz, and Eva Saladin. The three musicians met while studying at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland, and decided to form an ensemble that would focus on performing music from the Baroque era on period instruments. The ensemble's main members are Anna Stegmann, who plays the recorder and traverso, Georg Fritz, who plays the violin, and Eva Saladin, who plays the harpsichord. The ensemble also collaborates with other musicians, depending on the repertoire they are performing. Ensemble Odyssee has performed at many prestigious venues and festivals around the world, including the Utrecht Early Music Festival, the Festival Oude Muziek in Bruges, the Festival de Musique Baroque de Pontoise, and the Festival de Musique Ancienne de Callas. The ensemble has also performed at the Wigmore Hall in London, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, and the Philharmonie de Paris. One of the highlights of Ensemble Odyssee's career was their performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's Brandenburg Concertos at the Utrecht Early Music Festival in 2015. The ensemble performed all six of the concertos over the course of two concerts, and their performances were praised for their energy, precision, and musicality. The ensemble's recording of the Brandenburg Concertos was also well-received, and was nominated for a Gramophone Award in 2016. Ensemble Odyssee has also received critical acclaim for their performances of music by lesser-known composers from the Baroque era. In 2017, the ensemble released a recording of music by Johann Christoph Graupner, a contemporary of Bach who was largely forgotten until recently. The recording was praised for its "exquisite playing" and "impeccable musicianship," and was named one of the best classical recordings of the year by several publications. In addition to their performances and recordings, Ensemble Odyssee is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and has worked with schools and community organizations to bring classical music to a wider audience. Ensemble Odyssee has received several awards and honors for their work. In 2012, the ensemble won the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition, which led to a recording contract with Linn Records. The ensemble has also been awarded the ECHO Klassik award, one of the most prestigious classical music awards in Germany, for their recording of music by Johann Joachim Quantz. Overall, Ensemble Odyssee is a dynamic and innovative ensemble that is dedicated to bringing the music of the Baroque era to life. With their virtuosic playing, deep musicality, and commitment to education and outreach, they are sure to continue making an impact on the classical music world for years to come.
