Born in Gifu, Japan in 1966, Ikeda grew up in a family that was interested in music and art. His father was a jazz musician, and his mother was a painter. As a child, Ikeda was exposed to a wide range of music, including jazz, classical, and traditional Japanese music. Ikeda began his musical training at a young age, studying piano and percussion. He later attended the Kyoto City University of Arts, where he studied music composition and computer programming. During this time, he became interested in electronic music and began experimenting with synthesizers and other electronic instruments. In the early 1990s, Ikeda moved to Tokyo and began working as a sound designer for the theater and dance companies. He also began to create his own music, which was heavily influenced by the minimalist and experimental music of composers like Steve Reich and John Cage. One of Ikeda's early works was a series of pieces called "Datamatics," which were based on the visual and sonic properties of digital data. These works used computer-generated sounds and visuals to explore the relationship between technology and human perception. In 2000, Ikeda released his first album, "+/-," which was a collection of minimalist electronic compositions. The album received critical acclaim and established Ikeda as a leading figure in the experimental music scene. Over the years, Ikeda has continued to push the boundaries of electronic music, creating works that explore the limits of human perception and the relationship between sound and space. Some of his most notable works include "Test Pattern," a series of audiovisual installations that use computer-generated patterns and sounds to create immersive environments, and "superposition," a series of works that explore the concept of quantum mechanics through sound and light. Ikeda's music has been performed and exhibited around the world, and he has collaborated with a wide range of artists and musicians. In addition to his work as a composer, Ikeda is also a visual artist and has created a number of installations and exhibitions that explore the intersection of sound and visual art.
