Artist Info

Quatuor Giardini is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2013 in Paris, France. The ensemble is named after the famous Italian composer and violinist, Felice Giardini, who was a prominent figure in the classical music scene during the 18th century. The founding members of Quatuor Giardini were four young musicians who had recently graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. These musicians were violinists Marie-Annick Nicolas and Raphaël Jouan, violist Mathieu Herzog, and cellist Alexis Descharmes. They shared a passion for chamber music and decided to form a quartet that would allow them to explore the rich repertoire of classical music. Quatuor Giardini quickly gained recognition for their exceptional musicianship and their ability to bring a fresh perspective to classical music. They were invited to perform at some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, including the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Wigmore Hall in London, and the Konzerthaus in Vienna. One of the highlights of Quatuor Giardini's early career was their performance at the Festival de Musique de Menton in 2014. They were awarded the Prix du Jury for their outstanding performance of Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131. This award helped to establish Quatuor Giardini as one of the most promising young ensembles in the classical music world. Over the years, Quatuor Giardini has continued to build on their success and has become known for their innovative programming and their ability to connect with audiences. They have collaborated with some of the most renowned musicians in the world, including pianist Martha Argerich and cellist Gautier Capuçon. In 2018, Quatuor Giardini released their debut album, which featured works by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. The album received critical acclaim and was praised for its technical precision and emotional depth. One of the most memorable performances by Quatuor Giardini was their rendition of Schubert's String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, "Death and the Maiden," at the Festival de Pâques in Aix-en-Provence in 2019. The quartet's interpretation of this hauntingly beautiful piece was described as "spellbinding" and "transcendent." Quatuor Giardini has also been recognized for their commitment to education and outreach. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops for young musicians in France and abroad, and have worked with organizations such as Musique et Santé, which brings music to hospitals and healthcare facilities. In 2020, Quatuor Giardini was awarded the Prix de la Révélation Classique by the French music magazine Diapason. This award recognizes the most promising young classical musicians in France and is a testament to the quartet's talent and dedication. Today, Quatuor Giardini continues to perform and record music that inspires and moves audiences around the world. They are known for their passion, their technical excellence, and their ability to bring new life to classical music.
