Rasa Vitkauskaite is a Lithuanian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and deep musical interpretations. Born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1983, Vitkauskaite began playing the piano at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She studied at the National M.K. Ciurlionis School of Arts in Vilnius and later at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, where she earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. Vitkauskaite's early career was marked by numerous competition wins and high-profile performances. In 2004, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Rome, and in 2005 she was a finalist at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. She has also won top prizes at the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona, the International Piano Competition in Panama, and the International Piano Competition in Parnu, Estonia. Vitkauskaite has performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Brussels Philharmonic, and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also given recitals at major venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Moscow Conservatory. One of Vitkauskaite's most notable performances was her debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London in 2010, where she played Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 to critical acclaim. The Guardian praised her "dazzling technique and musicality," while The Times called her performance "a revelation." In addition to her solo career, Vitkauskaite is also an active chamber musician. She has collaborated with many renowned artists, including violinist Maxim Vengerov, cellist Gautier Capuçon, and clarinetist Martin Fröst. She is a founding member of the Vilnius Piano Trio, which has performed extensively throughout Europe and Asia. Vitkauskaite's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by composers from Bach to Ligeti. She has a particular affinity for the music of Chopin, and has recorded his complete Nocturnes and Ballades for the Naxos label. Her recordings have received critical acclaim and have been featured on BBC Radio 3, Classic FM, and other major radio stations. In addition to her performing career, Vitkauskaite is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, and has given masterclasses in many countries around the world. Vitkauskaite has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to the world of classical music. In 2012, she was awarded the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts, the highest honor given by the Lithuanian government for achievements in the arts. She has also been named a Steinway Artist, an honor reserved for the world's most distinguished pianists. Despite her many accomplishments, Vitkauskaite remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She has said that her goal as a musician is to "communicate the beauty and power of music to as many people as possible."
