Anna Polonsky is a highly acclaimed classical pianist known for her virtuosic performances and deep musicality. Born in Moscow, Russia in 1978, Polonsky began playing the piano at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Her family moved to the United States when she was eight years old, and she continued her musical studies with renowned teachers such as Richard Goode and Claude Frank. Polonsky's early career was marked by a series of impressive accomplishments. In 1995, she won the prestigious Young Concert Artists International Auditions, which led to numerous performances in major concert halls across the United States. She also won the Gina Bachauer Piano Competition in 1997, solidifying her reputation as one of the most promising young pianists of her generation. Throughout the 2000s, Polonsky continued to build her career as a soloist and chamber musician. She performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the San Francisco Symphony. She also collaborated with many of the most respected chamber music ensembles, such as the Guarneri Quartet and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. One of Polonsky's most notable achievements during this time was her recording of the complete Beethoven violin sonatas with violinist Jennifer Koh. The recording, released in 2008, received widespread critical acclaim and was hailed as a landmark interpretation of these iconic works. In addition to her performing career, Polonsky has also been active as an educator. She has taught at the Mannes School of Music in New York City and has given masterclasses at institutions such as the Juilliard School and the Yale School of Music. She is known for her thoughtful and insightful approach to teaching, and many of her students have gone on to successful careers as performers and educators themselves.
