Period:BaroqueClassicalRomanticGenre:ChoralOperaSymphonyWilliam Wildermann was a renowned classical music artist who was born on May 15, 1950, in Vienna, Austria. He was the youngest of three children born to a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Wildermann was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Wildermann's talent was evident from an early age, and he began performing in public at the age of six. He quickly gained a reputation as a prodigy and was invited to perform at various concerts and events. At the age of ten, he made his debut with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor. Wildermann's musical education was extensive. He studied at the Vienna Conservatory and later at the Juilliard School in New York City. He also studied with some of the most renowned pianists of the time, including Vladimir Horowitz and Arthur Rubinstein. Wildermann's career as a concert pianist took off in the 1970s. He performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States, playing with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He was known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. One of Wildermann's most memorable performances was his 1978 performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, also known as the "Emperor" concerto. The performance was recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall in London and was later released as an album. The album received critical acclaim and helped to cement Wildermann's reputation as one of the world's greatest pianists. Wildermann was also a prolific recording artist. He recorded over 50 albums throughout his career, including solo piano works, chamber music, and concertos. His recordings of the works of Chopin, Liszt, and Beethoven are considered some of the best interpretations of these composers' music. In addition to his performing and recording career, Wildermann was also a respected teacher. He taught at the Vienna Conservatory and later at the Juilliard School. Many of his students went on to have successful careers as pianists. Throughout his career, Wildermann received numerous awards and honors. In 1980, he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, and in 1992, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was also a recipient of the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance (without orchestra) in 1983 for his recording of Chopin's Nocturnes. Despite his success, Wildermann remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to perform and record until his death in 2005 at the age of 55. His legacy as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century lives on through his recordings and the many students he taught throughout his career.More....
