She was the daughter of a prominent Austrian conductor and composer, and her mother was a talented pianist. From a young age, Geiger was exposed to the world of classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Geiger's talent was evident from an early age, and she quickly became a prodigy. She began performing in public at the age of six and made her debut with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of nine. Her performances were met with critical acclaim, and she quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented young musicians in Austria. Geiger continued to study music throughout her childhood and adolescence, and she eventually enrolled in the Vienna Academy of Music. She studied under some of the most renowned music teachers in Austria, including Bruno Walter and Wilhelm Furtwängler. Geiger's talent continued to flourish, and she began to gain recognition as a soloist and chamber musician. In 1945, Geiger made her debut in the United States, performing with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Her performance was a huge success, and she quickly became a sought-after performer in the United States. Geiger continued to perform throughout Europe and the United States, and she became known for her virtuosic performances and her ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music she played. Throughout her career, Geiger performed with some of the most renowned orchestras in the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. She also performed with some of the most talented musicians of her time, including Yehudi Menuhin, Isaac Stern, and Pablo Casals. Geiger's repertoire was vast, and she was known for her interpretations of the works of Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms. She was also a champion of contemporary music and premiered works by some of the most important composers of the 20th century, including Arnold Schoenberg and Igor Stravinsky. In addition to her performances, Geiger was also a respected music educator. She taught at the Vienna Academy of Music and the Salzburg Mozarteum, and she was known for her ability to inspire and mentor young musicians. Geiger's talent and contributions to the world of classical music were recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout her career. She was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art in 1973, and she was made an honorary member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1983.
