Alexander Gavrylyuk is a Ukrainian-born classical pianist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. He was born on September 1, 1984, in the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine, and began playing the piano at the age of seven. His talent was quickly recognized, and he was accepted into the prestigious Lysenko Special Music School for Gifted Children in Kyiv, where he studied with Tamara Koloss. At the age of thirteen, Gavrylyuk won the First Prize at the Vladimir Horowitz International Piano Competition in Kyiv, which launched his career as a concert pianist. He went on to win numerous other competitions, including the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan, the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Israel, and the Sydney International Piano Competition in Australia. Gavrylyuk has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with renowned conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Valery Gergiev, and Sir Simon Rattle. One of Gavrylyuk's most memorable performances was his debut at the BBC Proms in 2009, where he played Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Charles Dutoit. The performance was widely praised by critics, with The Guardian describing Gavrylyuk's playing as "dazzling" and "mesmerizing." In addition to his performances as a soloist, Gavrylyuk is also an avid chamber musician. He has collaborated with many distinguished musicians, including violinist Vadim Repin, cellist Mischa Maisky, and pianist Stephen Hough. Gavrylyuk's repertoire is vast and includes works by many of the great composers, such as Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, and Prokofiev. He is particularly known for his interpretations of Rachmaninoff's music, which he has described as "the most personal and emotional music ever written." Gavrylyuk has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2005, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his services to music, and in 2010, he was named a Steinway Artist. He has also been awarded the prestigious Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Prize and the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Monte Carlo. Despite his success, Gavrylyuk remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He has said that his goal as a musician is to "touch people's hearts and souls" through his music. He continues to perform regularly around the world and is widely regarded as one of the most talented and exciting pianists of his generation.
