The Hirsch-Pinkas Piano Duo is a renowned classical music duo consisting of pianists Sally Pinkas and Evan Hirsch. The duo has been performing together for over 30 years and has established themselves as one of the most dynamic and versatile piano duos in the world. Sally Pinkas was born in New York City and began playing the piano at the age of four. She went on to study at the Juilliard School and later earned her doctorate from the New England Conservatory of Music. Evan Hirsch was born in Boston and also began playing the piano at a young age. He studied at the New England Conservatory of Music and later earned his doctorate from the University of Michigan. The duo first met in 1984 while studying at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and began performing together as the Hirsch-Pinkas Piano Duo. Their first major performance was at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in 1986, where they received critical acclaim for their interpretation of Mozart's Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major. Since then, the duo has performed extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. They have appeared at major concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall. They have also been featured on numerous radio and television programs, including NPR's Performance Today and the BBC's In Tune. One of the highlights of the duo's career was their performance at the 1994 Newport Music Festival, where they performed a program of works by Brahms, Schubert, and Debussy. The performance was hailed as "a revelation" by The Boston Globe and helped to establish the duo as one of the leading piano duos of their generation. The duo has also been recognized for their recordings, which have received critical acclaim and numerous awards. Their recording of Mozart's Complete Sonatas for Piano Four Hands was named one of the top classical recordings of 2003 by The New York Times.
