Quartetto Noferini is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2004 in Florence, Italy. The ensemble is named after its founder and first violinist, Andrea Noferini. The other members of the quartet are second violinist, Davide Toso, violist, Andrea Agostinelli, and cellist, Giuseppe Barutti. Andrea Noferini, who was born in Florence in 1977, began playing the violin at the age of six. He studied at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany. He has won numerous awards and competitions, including the International Violin Competition "Premio Paganini" in Genoa, Italy. Davide Toso, who was born in Turin in 1975, also began playing the violin at a young age. He studied at the Conservatory of Turin and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, where he met Andrea Noferini. He has performed with many orchestras and ensembles, including the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and the Ensemble Modern. Andrea Agostinelli, who was born in Rome in 1977, began playing the viola at the age of nine. He studied at the Conservatory of Rome and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, where he also met Andrea Noferini and Davide Toso. He has performed with many orchestras and ensembles, including the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Giuseppe Barutti, who was born in Florence in 1977, began playing the cello at the age of eight. He studied at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory in Florence and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, where he also met Andrea Noferini, Davide Toso, and Andrea Agostinelli. He has performed with many orchestras and ensembles, including the Orchestra della Toscana and the Ensemble Modern. Quartetto Noferini has performed in many prestigious venues and festivals around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Wigmore Hall in London, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Salzburg Festival, and the Lucerne Festival. The quartet has also collaborated with many renowned musicians, including pianist Martha Argerich, cellist Mischa Maisky, and clarinetist Sabine Meyer. The ensemble has recorded several albums, including works by Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, and Shostakovich. Their recording of Beethoven's String Quartets Op. 18 was praised by critics for its "clarity, precision, and emotional depth." Quartetto Noferini has won many awards and competitions, including the International Chamber Music Competition "Premio Paolo Borciani" in Reggio Emilia, Italy, and the International Chamber Music Competition "Franz Schubert und die Musik der Moderne" in Graz, Austria. The quartet was also awarded the prestigious "Echo Klassik" award in 2010 for their recording of Brahms' String Quartets Op. 51.
