Adriana Zabala is a renowned mezzo-soprano and classical music artist who has captivated audiences with her powerful voice and emotive performances. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Zabala grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. Her mother was a pianist and her father was a singer, and they both encouraged her to pursue her passion for music. Zabala began her formal music education at the University of Minnesota, where she studied under the tutelage of renowned mezzo-soprano Vern Sutton. She later went on to earn her Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School, where she studied with mezzo-soprano Edith Wiens. Throughout her career, Zabala has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and opera houses. She has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Minnesota Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, among others. One of Zabala's most notable performances was her portrayal of the title role in the world premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon's opera "The Grapes of Wrath" at the Minnesota Opera in 2007. The opera, based on John Steinbeck's novel of the same name, received critical acclaim and was later performed at the Utah Opera, the Pittsburgh Opera, and the Houston Grand Opera. Zabala has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2003, she was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, which led to her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 2004. She was also a winner of the George London Foundation Competition, the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation Competition, and the Richard Tucker Career Grant. In addition to her performances on stage, Zabala is also a dedicated educator and mentor. She has served on the faculty of the University of Minnesota School of Music and the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music, and has given masterclasses and workshops at universities and conservatories throughout the United States. Zabala's repertoire spans a wide range of musical styles and genres, from classical opera to contemporary art song.
