Timothy Amherst was born on May 15, 1985, in London, England. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Timothy showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. As a child, Timothy was enrolled in the Royal Academy of Music's Junior Department, where he received formal training in piano performance. He quickly excelled in his studies and began performing in public at the age of six. By the time he was ten, Timothy had won several local and national piano competitions, including the prestigious BBC Young Musician of the Year award. In 1997, Timothy was accepted into the Royal Academy of Music's undergraduate program, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires. During his time at the academy, Timothy continued to win numerous awards and accolades, including the Royal Academy of Music's highest honor, the Queen's Commendation for Excellence. After graduating from the academy in 2001, Timothy began his professional career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented and dynamic young pianists of his generation, and was soon in high demand for performances around the world. One of Timothy's most notable performances came in 2005, when he was invited to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the BBC Proms series. His performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, "Emperor," was widely praised by critics and audiences alike, and cemented his reputation as a rising star in the classical music world. Over the years, Timothy has continued to perform at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and music festivals, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Salzburg Festival. He has also collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and Sir Simon Rattle. In addition to his performing career, Timothy is also a dedicated teacher and mentor to young musicians. He has served as a visiting professor at several universities and conservatories around the world, and has also founded his own music academy in London, where he teaches and mentors young pianists. Throughout his career, Timothy has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the classical music world. In 2010, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his services to music, and in 2015, he was named a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music. Today, Timothy continues to perform and teach around the world, and remains one of the most respected and admired pianists of his generation.
