Role:Conductor PerformerEdvard Tchivzhel is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact on the world of music through his exceptional talent and dedication to his craft. Born on May 23, 1951, in Tbilisi, Georgia, Tchivzhel showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. He quickly demonstrated a natural aptitude for the instrument and was soon recognized as a prodigy. Tchivzhel's musical education began at the Tbilisi State Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned violinist and pedagogue, Professor Valery Klimov. He graduated with honors in 1973 and went on to pursue further studies at the Moscow State Conservatory, where he studied with the legendary violinist, David Oistrakh. After completing his studies, Tchivzhel began his professional career as a soloist with the Georgian State Symphony Orchestra. He quickly gained a reputation as a virtuoso performer and was soon invited to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Moscow Philharmonic, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. In 1989, Tchivzhel was appointed as the principal conductor of the Donetsk Philharmonic Orchestra in Ukraine. During his tenure, he transformed the orchestra into one of the leading ensembles in the country, earning critical acclaim for his innovative programming and dynamic performances. In 1991, Tchivzhel was invited to the United States to conduct the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra. He was immediately struck by the warmth and enthusiasm of American audiences and decided to make the United States his home. He became a naturalized citizen in 1998. Tchivzhel's career in the United States has been marked by numerous highlights, including his appointment as the principal conductor of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra in 1994. Under his leadership, the orchestra has become one of the most respected ensembles in the Southeast, earning critical acclaim for its innovative programming and dynamic performances. Tchivzhel has also been a frequent guest conductor with some of the country's leading orchestras, including the Boston Pops, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra. He has collaborated with some of the world's leading soloists, including Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, and Joshua Bell. In addition to his work as a conductor, Tchivzhel is also an accomplished composer and arranger. His compositions have been performed by orchestras around the world, and his arrangements of traditional Georgian folk music have been widely praised for their beauty and authenticity. Tchivzhel's contributions to the world of music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2001, he was awarded the Order of Honor by the President of Georgia for his contributions to Georgian culture. He has also been awarded the Key to the City of Greenville, South Carolina, and the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian honor in the state.
