Duo Melis is a classical music ensemble consisting of two guitarists, Susana Prieto and Alexis Muzurakis. The duo was founded in 1999 and has since become one of the most renowned guitar ensembles in the world. Susana Prieto was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1974. She began playing the guitar at the age of six and went on to study at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid. She later continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, Germany, where she received a degree in guitar performance. Alexis Muzurakis was born in Athens, Greece, in 1972. He also began playing the guitar at a young age and went on to study at the National Conservatory of Athens. He later continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, where he met Susana Prieto. The two guitarists formed Duo Melis in 1999 and quickly gained recognition for their exceptional talent and musicality. They have performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. They have also performed at numerous international music festivals, such as the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, and the Guitar Foundation of America Festival. Duo Melis has released several critically acclaimed albums, including their debut album, "Duo Melis," which was released in 2002. The album features works by composers such as Manuel de Falla, Joaquín Rodrigo, and Isaac Albéniz. Their second album, "Duo Melis Plays Piazzolla," was released in 2005 and features works by the Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla. The album was praised for its virtuosity and musicality. They were awarded the first prize at the International Guitar Duo Competition in Montelimar, France, in 2000.
