Uriel Tsachor is a renowned classical pianist and professor of piano at the University of Iowa. Born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1968, Tsachor began playing the piano at the age of six. He showed exceptional talent and was soon accepted into the prestigious Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts in Givatayim, Israel. There, he studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Arie Vardi, who would become his mentor and guide throughout his career. Tsachor continued his studies at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree with honors. He then went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he earned his Master of Music degree and his Doctor of Musical Arts degree. At Juilliard, he studied with legendary pianist and pedagogue Adele Marcus, who had a profound influence on his playing and teaching. Throughout his career, Tsachor has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician in major concert halls around the world. He has appeared with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many of the world's leading chamber musicians, including violinist Shlomo Mintz, cellist Lynn Harrell, and clarinetist Richard Stoltzman. Tsachor has won numerous awards and prizes throughout his career, including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, the Cleveland International Piano Competition, and the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition. He has also been a finalist in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the Leeds International Piano Competition. In addition to his performing career, Tsachor is also a highly respected teacher and pedagogue. He has taught at the Juilliard School, the Peabody Conservatory of Music, and the Tel Aviv University Buchmann-Mehta School of Music. He is currently a professor of piano at the University of Iowa School of Music, where he has been on the faculty since 2000. Tsachor is known for his deep musicality, technical virtuosity, and insightful interpretations of a wide range of repertoire. He has recorded extensively, with over a dozen CDs to his name, including recordings of works by Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, and Chopin. His recordings have received critical acclaim and have been featured on radio stations around the world. One of Tsachor's most notable performances was his 1995 debut with the New York Philharmonic, where he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 under the baton of Kurt Masur. The performance was widely praised for its sensitivity, clarity, and technical brilliance. Tsachor has also performed at many of the world's leading music festivals, including the Ravinia Festival, the Tanglewood Music Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival. Tsachor is also a dedicated advocate for contemporary music, and has premiered many new works by leading composers. He has worked closely with composers such as George Crumb, John Harbison, and Joan Tower, and has recorded several CDs of contemporary music. In addition to his performing and teaching career, Tsachor is also a prolific writer and scholar. He has published articles and essays on a wide range of topics, including piano pedagogy, performance practice, and the music of Beethoven.
