Artist Info
Allan Clayton is a British tenor who has established himself as one of the most versatile and sought-after classical music artists of his generation. Born on April 30, 1980, in Lancashire, England, Clayton grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. He attended Chetham's School of Music in Manchester, where he studied voice and piano, and later went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Clayton's career as a professional musician began in 2007, when he made his debut with the English National Opera in the role of Tamino in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." Since then, he has performed with some of the world's leading opera companies and orchestras, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. One of Clayton's most notable performances was his portrayal of the title role in George Benjamin's opera "Written on Skin," which premiered at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in 2012. The opera, which tells the story of a medieval illuminator who falls in love with his patron's wife, was a critical and commercial success, and Clayton's performance was widely praised for its emotional depth and vocal agility. In addition to his work in opera, Clayton is also a highly sought-after concert performer, known for his interpretations of works by composers such as Bach, Handel, and Britten. He has performed at major concert halls and festivals around the world, including the BBC Proms, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Salzburg Festival. Throughout his career, Clayton has received numerous awards and accolades for his performances. In 2013, he was named Young Artist of the Year at the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards, and in 2018, he was awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society Singer Award. He has also been nominated for a Grammy Award for his recording of Britten's "War Requiem" with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Despite his success, Clayton remains committed to exploring new repertoire and pushing the boundaries of classical music. In recent years, he has collaborated with contemporary composers such as Thomas Adès and Nico Muhly, and has premiered several new works written specifically for him. Overall, Allan Clayton's career as a classical music artist has been marked by a combination of technical excellence, emotional depth, and a willingness to take risks and explore new territory. As he continues to perform and record, he is sure to remain a major force in the world of classical music for years to come.More....
