Trio con Brio Copenhagen is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1999. The group consists of two sisters, Soo-Jin Hong and Soo-Kyung Hong, who play violin and cello respectively, and pianist Jens Elvekjaer. The trio has gained international recognition for their dynamic performances and innovative interpretations of classical music. The trio's founding can be traced back to their childhood in South Korea. Soo-Jin and Soo-Kyung Hong were both born into a musical family and began playing their respective instruments at a young age. They later moved to Europe to further their musical education, with Soo-Jin studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and Soo-Kyung at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover in Germany. Jens Elvekjaer, the pianist of the trio, was born in Denmark and also studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. He has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras and has won several awards for his piano playing. The trio officially formed in 1999 and quickly gained attention for their unique sound and musical chemistry. They have since performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of the trio's most notable performances was at the 2002 Copenhagen Summer Festival, where they performed Beethoven's Triple Concerto with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. The performance was met with critical acclaim and helped to establish the trio as one of the leading classical music ensembles in Europe. In addition to their live performances, Trio con Brio Copenhagen has also released several recordings. Their debut album, featuring works by Beethoven, Schubert, and Ravel, was released in 2003 and received widespread praise from critics. They have since released several more albums, including a recording of works by Shostakovich and a collection of Danish chamber music. The trio has also been the recipient of numerous awards and honors. In 2005, they were awarded the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award, which recognizes outstanding piano trios from around the world. They have also been awarded the P2 Artists Prize by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation and the Danish Music Critics' Prize. Despite their success, Trio con Brio Copenhagen remains committed to exploring new musical territory and pushing the boundaries of classical music. They have collaborated with a wide range of artists, including jazz musicians and contemporary composers, and have premiered several new works.
