Born in the United States, Brailey grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. Her parents were both music teachers, and her father was a professional trumpet player. Brailey started singing in church choirs and school choirs, and her love for music continued to grow. Brailey attended the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, where she studied vocal performance. She also studied at the Yale School of Music, where she earned a Master of Music degree. During her time at Yale, Brailey was a member of the Yale Schola Cantorum, a renowned choir that performs early music and contemporary works. Brailey's career as a professional musician began to take off after she won the prestigious Handel Aria Competition in 2016. This competition is held annually in Madison, Wisconsin, and is open to singers from around the world. Brailey's performance of Handel's "Sì, tra i ceppi" from the opera "Berenice" impressed the judges and earned her the top prize. Since winning the Handel Aria Competition, Brailey has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors. She has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Philadelphia Orchestra, among others. Brailey has also worked with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Alan Gilbert. One of Brailey's most memorable performances was her debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2018. She performed the soprano solo in Mozart's "Great" Mass in C minor, which was conducted by Bernard Haitink. The performance was highly praised by critics, who noted Brailey's "crystalline tone" and "impeccable phrasing." Brailey is also known for her work as a chamber musician and recitalist.
