Role:ConductorMarieke Blankestijn is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. She was born on 22nd May 1961 in the Netherlands and grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a violinist, and her mother was a pianist. From a young age, Marieke showed a keen interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. Marieke's talent was evident from the beginning, and she quickly progressed in her studies. She attended the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where she studied with Herman Krebbers. She later continued her studies with Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School in New York. Marieke's career as a professional musician began in 1984 when she joined the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, one of the world's most renowned chamber orchestras. She quickly established herself as a leading violinist and became the orchestra's leader in 1994. During her time with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Marieke performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In addition to her work with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Marieke has also performed as a soloist with many other orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. She has collaborated with some of the world's most renowned conductors, including Sir Neville Marriner, Bernard Haitink, and Sir Colin Davis. Marieke's talent has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 1991, she was awarded the prestigious Dutch Music Prize, the highest honor for a classical musician in the Netherlands. She was also awarded the Edison Classical Music Award in 1993 for her recording of Mozart's Violin Concertos with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. One of the highlights of Marieke's career was her performance at the 1998 Nobel Prize Concert in Stockholm, Sweden. She performed Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Sir Neville Marriner. The concert was attended by the Nobel laureates and members of the Swedish royal family. Marieke has also been a dedicated chamber musician throughout her career. She has performed with many renowned chamber ensembles, including the Nash Ensemble, the Schubert Ensemble, and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble. She has also been a member of the Leopold String Trio since 2002. In addition to her performing career, Marieke is also a respected teacher. She has taught at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. She is currently a professor of violin at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague.
