Role:PerformerPierre Colombet is a French violinist and founding member of the Quatuor Ébène, a renowned string quartet known for their innovative and dynamic performances. Colombet was born on May 23, 1982, in Lyon, France, into a family of musicians. His father was a cellist and his mother a pianist, and they encouraged him to pursue music from a young age. Colombet began playing the violin at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, where he received his diploma with honors. He then went on to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he was awarded the Premier Prix in violin performance. In 1999, Colombet co-founded the Quatuor Ébène with three other musicians: cellist Raphaël Merlin, violist Mathieu Herzog, and violinist Gabriel Le Magadure. The quartet quickly gained recognition for their innovative approach to classical music, blending traditional repertoire with jazz, pop, and world music influences. The Quatuor Ébène made their debut at the Wigmore Hall in London in 2004, and since then have performed at major concert halls and festivals around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Salzburg Festival. They have collaborated with renowned musicians such as pianist Menahem Pressler and jazz musician Michel Portal. In addition to their live performances, the Quatuor Ébène has released several critically acclaimed recordings, including their 2010 album Fiction, which won the Echo Klassik Award for Chamber Music Recording of the Year. They have also won numerous other awards, including the BBC Music Magazine Award, the Diapason d'Or, and the MIDEM Classical Award. Colombet has also pursued a solo career, performing with orchestras such as the Orchestre National de Lyon and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. He has recorded several solo albums, including his 2018 release, Bach: Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin. In addition to his performing career, Colombet is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught masterclasses at institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Juilliard School in New York. He is currently a professor of violin at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne in Switzerland. Throughout his career, Colombet has been praised for his technical skill and musical sensitivity. He is known for his ability to bring a fresh perspective to traditional repertoire, as well as his willingness to experiment with new styles and genres. He continues to be a leading figure in the classical music world, both as a member of the Quatuor Ébène and as a solo artist and teacher.More....
