Role:EnsembleThe Franciscus Quartet is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2008 in the Netherlands. The quartet consists of four members: violinists Daniel Rowland and Julia Dinerstein, violist Ásdís Valdimarsdóttir, and cellist Niek de Groot. The quartet's founding members, Rowland and Dinerstein, met while studying at the Royal College of Music in London. They later joined forces with Valdimarsdóttir and de Groot to form the Franciscus Quartet. The ensemble takes its name from the Franciscus Church in Amsterdam, where the quartet gave its first public performance. Since its founding, the Franciscus Quartet has become known for its dynamic and expressive performances. The quartet has performed at major venues and festivals throughout Europe, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall in London, and the Festival de Musique de Menton in France. One of the highlights of the Franciscus Quartet's career was its performance at the 2012 BBC Proms. The quartet performed Beethoven's String Quartet No. 13 in B-flat major, Op. 130, to critical acclaim. The Guardian praised the quartet's "intense and committed" performance, while The Telegraph called it "a performance of great depth and insight." The Franciscus Quartet has also been recognized for its recordings. In 2014, the quartet released a recording of Schubert's String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, "Death and the Maiden," which was praised by Gramophone magazine for its "passionate and committed" performance. The quartet's recording of Mendelssohn's String Quartets Nos. 1 and 2 was also well-received, with The Strad calling it "a recording of great beauty and sensitivity." In addition to its performances and recordings, the Franciscus Quartet is committed to education and outreach. The quartet has worked with young musicians through masterclasses and workshops, and has also performed in schools and community centers. Overall, the Franciscus Quartet has established itself as one of the leading classical music ensembles in Europe. With its passionate and expressive performances, the quartet has won over audiences and critics alike, and has become a fixture on the international classical music scene.More....
