He grew up in a musical family, with both his parents being accomplished musicians. His father was a conductor and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Roberts showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Roberts received his early musical education at the Ysgol Glanaethwy School of Performing Arts in Bangor, North Wales. He then went on to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. He continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he earned a Master of Music degree in piano performance. Throughout his career, Roberts has won numerous awards and accolades for his performances. In 2006, he won the Welsh Young Musician of the Year competition, which led to his debut performance with the Welsh National Orchestra. He has also won the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Award, and the Worshipful Company of Musicians Silver Medal. Roberts has performed extensively throughout the United Kingdom and Europe, as well as in the United States and Asia. He has performed at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Wigmore Hall, and the Carnegie Hall. He has also performed with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. One of Roberts' most notable performances was his debut at the Royal Festival Hall in London in 2010. He performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the Emperor Concerto, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The performance was highly praised by critics, with The Guardian describing Roberts as "a pianist of rare talent and sensitivity." In addition to his performances as a soloist, Roberts is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has collaborated with many renowned musicians, including violinist Nicola Benedetti and cellist Steven Isserlis. He is a member of the Trio Apaches, a piano trio that has performed at major festivals and venues throughout Europe. Roberts is also a dedicated teacher and has taught at several music schools and universities. He is currently a professor of piano at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where he also serves as the head of keyboard studies. In addition to his performing and teaching career, Roberts is also a composer. He has written several pieces for piano, as well as chamber music and orchestral works.
