Quatuor Nostitz is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1994 in Prague, Czech Republic. The ensemble is named after the Nostitz Palace, which is located in the heart of Prague and was once the residence of the Nostitz family, a prominent Czech noble family. The founding members of Quatuor Nostitz were Jana Vonášková (violin), Jitka Hosprová (violin), Jiří Kabát (viola), and Petr Hejný (cello). All four members were graduates of the Prague Conservatory and had previously played together in various chamber music groups. From the beginning, Quatuor Nostitz was dedicated to performing the works of classical composers, with a particular focus on the string quartet repertoire. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for their technical skill and musical sensitivity, and they were soon invited to perform at major music festivals throughout Europe. One of the highlights of Quatuor Nostitz's early career was their performance at the 1996 Prague Spring International Music Festival. The ensemble received critical acclaim for their interpretation of Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131, which was described as "a performance of great depth and emotional intensity." In the years that followed, Quatuor Nostitz continued to build their reputation as one of the leading string quartets in Europe. They performed at major music festivals in Germany, Austria, Italy, and France, and they were invited to collaborate with some of the world's most renowned musicians, including pianist Martha Argerich and cellist Mischa Maisky. In 2001, Quatuor Nostitz released their first album, which featured works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Dvořák. The album received widespread critical acclaim and was praised for the ensemble's "impeccable technique and musical sensitivity." Over the years, Quatuor Nostitz has received numerous awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 2003, they were awarded the Czech Chamber Music Society's prestigious Award for Excellence in Chamber Music, and in 2007, they received the Czech Music Council's Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Classical Music. One of the most memorable performances in Quatuor Nostitz's career took place in 2010, when they performed Beethoven's complete cycle of string quartets over the course of six concerts at the Rudolfinum in Prague. The cycle was widely regarded as one of the most significant musical events in the Czech Republic in recent years, and Quatuor Nostitz's performances were praised for their "passionate and insightful interpretations." In addition to their performances and recordings, Quatuor Nostitz is also committed to promoting classical music to a wider audience. They regularly participate in educational programs and outreach initiatives, and they have worked with young musicians in the Czech Republic and abroad. Today, Quatuor Nostitz continues to perform regularly throughout Europe and beyond. The ensemble's current members are Jana Vonášková (violin), Jitka Hosprová (violin), Jiří Kabát (viola), and Jan Keller (cello). They remain dedicated to their mission of bringing the beauty and power of classical music to audiences around the world.
