Born in Bogotá, Colombia, on August 22, 1949, Uribe showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Uribe received her early musical training at the National Conservatory of Music in Bogotá, where she studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue Blanca Lleó. She later continued her studies in the United States, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland, and a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School in New York City. Uribe's talent as a pianist was evident from an early age, and she quickly gained recognition for her exceptional musical abilities. She won her first major competition at the age of 14, when she was awarded first prize in the National Piano Competition in Colombia. This was followed by numerous other awards and honors, including first prize in the Young Artists Competition in Baltimore, Maryland, and the prestigious William Kapell International Piano Competition in College Park, Maryland. Uribe's career as a concert pianist began in earnest in the 1970s, when she began performing extensively throughout the United States and Europe. She quickly gained a reputation as a virtuoso pianist with a deep understanding of the music she played. Her performances were marked by a combination of technical brilliance and emotional depth, and she quickly became one of the most sought-after pianists of her generation. In addition to her work as a concert pianist, Uribe has also been active as a teacher and mentor. She has taught at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, the Juilliard School, and the Manhattan School of Music, among others. She has been awarded the Order of Merit by the Colombian government, and has been named a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government.
