Ensemble San Felice is a classical music group that was founded in 1995 in Naples, Italy. The group is known for its performances of Baroque and Renaissance music, as well as its collaborations with contemporary composers. The group was founded by Federico Maria Sardelli, a conductor and flutist who had previously worked with the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Sardelli was inspired to form the group after discovering a collection of Baroque music manuscripts in the library of the San Felice Conservatory in Naples. The group's early performances were focused on the music of Antonio Vivaldi, a composer who had strong ties to Naples. The group's first recording, released in 1997, was a collection of Vivaldi's concertos for flute and orchestra. Over the years, Ensemble San Felice has expanded its repertoire to include music by other Baroque and Renaissance composers, such as Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, and Claudio Monteverdi. The group has also collaborated with contemporary composers, including Arvo Pärt and John Cage. One of the highlights of Ensemble San Felice's career was its performance at the 2006 Salzburg Festival. The group performed a program of music by Vivaldi, including his famous Four Seasons concertos. The performance was well-received by critics and helped to raise the group's profile on the international stage. In addition to its performances, Ensemble San Felice has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2001, the group was awarded the prestigious Diapason d'Or award for its recording of Vivaldi's flute concertos.
