Les Nièces de Rameau is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 by three French musicians: soprano Marie Perbost, harpist Anaïs Gaudemard, and flutist Jeanne Gérard. The ensemble's name translates to "The Nieces of Rameau," a reference to the famous French composer Jean-Philippe Rameau, who was a distant relative of one of the founding members. The three musicians met while studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, and they quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music. They decided to form an ensemble that would showcase their individual talents while also exploring the rich repertoire of French classical music. Les Nièces de Rameau made their debut performance in 2013 at the Festival de Musique de Menton, where they received critical acclaim for their virtuosic playing and innovative programming. Since then, they have performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals in Europe, including the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, and the Salzburg Festival. The ensemble's repertoire is focused primarily on French classical music from the 18th and 19th centuries, with a particular emphasis on the works of Rameau, Debussy, and Ravel. They are known for their sensitive and nuanced interpretations of these composers' works, as well as their ability to bring lesser-known pieces to life. One of the highlights of Les Nièces de Rameau's career was their performance at the 2015 Festival de Musique de Menton, where they were joined by the renowned French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet for a program of works by Ravel and Debussy. The concert was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish the ensemble as one of the most exciting young chamber groups in Europe. In addition to their performances, Les Nièces de Rameau have also received numerous awards and accolades for their recordings. Their debut album, which featured works by Rameau and his contemporaries, was released in 2014 to widespread critical acclaim. It was named "Album of the Week" by BBC Radio 3 and was nominated for a Victoires de la Musique Classique award in the "Chamber Music" category. Since then, the ensemble has released several more albums, including a recording of Debussy's chamber music that was praised for its "subtle and refined" interpretations. They have also collaborated with other musicians and ensembles, including the Quatuor Ébène and the Orchestre National de France. Despite their success, Les Nièces de Rameau remain committed to exploring new repertoire and pushing the boundaries of classical music. They continue to perform regularly throughout Europe and are widely regarded as one of the most exciting and innovative chamber ensembles of their generation.
