Role:EnsemblePercussions Claviers de Lyon is a French classical music ensemble that specializes in percussion and keyboard instruments. The group was founded in 1983 by four percussionists who were students at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon. Over the years, the group has expanded to include keyboard instruments such as marimbas, xylophones, and vibraphones, as well as a variety of other percussion instruments. The founding members of Percussions Claviers de Lyon were Régis Famelart, Gilles Dumoulin, Gérard Lecointe, and François Papirer. They were all students at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon, where they studied percussion under the guidance of Jean-Paul Finkbeiner. The four musicians shared a passion for percussion music and decided to form a group that would showcase their talents and explore the possibilities of percussion music. In the early years of the group, Percussions Claviers de Lyon performed mainly in France, but they soon began to gain international recognition. In 1985, they won first prize at the International Percussion Competition in Fermo, Italy, which helped to establish their reputation as one of the leading percussion ensembles in the world. They also won first prize at the International Percussion Competition in Luxembourg in 1986. Over the years, Percussions Claviers de Lyon has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Royal Festival Hall in London, and the Lincoln Center in New York. They have also performed at major music festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, and the Berliner Festwochen. One of the highlights of Percussions Claviers de Lyon's career was their performance at the opening ceremony of the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. They performed a piece called "Mémoire de neige" (Memory of Snow), which was composed by Thierry Pécou specifically for the occasion. The performance was broadcast to millions of viewers around the world and helped to raise the profile of the group even further. Percussions Claviers de Lyon has also collaborated with many other musicians and composers over the years. They have worked with composers such as Steve Reich, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and John Cage, and have performed with orchestras such as the Orchestre National de Lyon and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. They have also collaborated with other percussion ensembles, such as Nexus and Kroumata. In addition to their performances, Percussions Claviers de Lyon has also recorded many albums over the years. Their first album, "Percussions Claviers de Lyon," was released in 1986 and featured works by composers such as Xenakis, Cage, and Varèse. They have since released many other albums, including "Les Quatre Saisons" (The Four Seasons), which features works by Vivaldi arranged for percussion instruments, and "African Snow," which features works by African composers. Percussions Claviers de Lyon has received many awards and honors over the years. In addition to their competition wins, they have been awarded the Grand Prix du Disque de l'Académie Charles Cros, the Diapason d'Or, and the Victoire de la Musique Classique. They were also awarded the title of Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in 2001.More....
