RussiaBirth:1949 in Moscow, RussiaPeriod:BaroqueGenre:ChamberKeyboardEvgeni Koroliov is a renowned classical pianist known for his exceptional technique and interpretation of the works of Bach, Beethoven, and Schumann. He was born on May 1, 1949, in Moscow, Russia, into a family of musicians. His father, Victor Koroliov, was a well-known pianist and professor at the Moscow Conservatory, and his mother, Tatiana Nikolayeva, was a celebrated pianist and Bach specialist. Koroliov began playing the piano at the age of five and showed remarkable talent from an early age. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory under the guidance of his parents and later with Lev Naumov. In 1969, he won first prize at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig, Germany, which launched his career as a concert pianist. Koroliov's performances are characterized by his technical precision, clarity of tone, and deep emotional expression. He is particularly known for his interpretations of Bach's keyboard works, which he approaches with a deep understanding of the composer's intentions and a profound sense of spirituality. His recordings of Bach's Goldberg Variations, Partitas, and Well-Tempered Clavier are considered among the finest interpretations of these works. In addition to his Bach performances, Koroliov has also gained acclaim for his interpretations of Beethoven's piano sonatas and Schumann's piano works. He has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many renowned conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, and Sir Simon Rattle. Koroliov has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1991, he was awarded the prestigious Echo Klassik Award for his recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations. He has also been awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Order of Friendship of the Russian Federation for his contributions to music. Despite his success, Koroliov remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and record extensively, and he is also a respected teacher and mentor to young pianists. He currently resides in Switzerland with his wife, the pianist Ljupka Hadzi-Georgieva, and their two children.More....
