The Bamberg Chamber Orchestra is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences around the world for over 70 years. Founded in 1946 in the city of Bamberg, Germany, the orchestra has become known for its exceptional musicianship, innovative programming, and commitment to promoting classical music to new audiences. The orchestra was founded by a group of young musicians who had been displaced by World War II and were looking for a way to continue their passion for music. Led by conductor Joseph Keilberth, the group began rehearsing in a small room in the Bamberg city hall, and soon began performing concerts in the local area. As the orchestra grew in popularity, it began to attract the attention of music lovers and critics alike. In 1949, the orchestra made its first international tour, performing in Switzerland and Austria to great acclaim. This was followed by tours of France, Italy, and the United States in the 1950s, which helped to establish the orchestra as one of the leading ensembles in Europe. Over the years, the Bamberg Chamber Orchestra has collaborated with some of the world's most renowned soloists, including Yehudi Menuhin, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and Martha Argerich. The orchestra has also commissioned and premiered numerous works by contemporary composers, including Sofia Gubaidulina, Wolfgang Rihm, and Peter Ruzicka. One of the highlights of the orchestra's history was its performance at the 1987 Salzburg Festival, where it was the first German orchestra to perform in the festival's history. The orchestra's performance of Mozart's "Jupiter" Symphony was hailed as a triumph, and helped to cement the orchestra's reputation as one of the finest ensembles in the world. In addition to its many performances and recordings, the Bamberg Chamber Orchestra has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2007, the orchestra was awarded the Echo Klassik award for its recording of Mozart's Piano Concertos with soloist Christian Zacharias. The orchestra has also been awarded the Bavarian Culture Prize and the German Record Critics' Award, among others. Today, the Bamberg Chamber Orchestra continues to be a leading force in the world of classical music. Under the leadership of conductor Jakub Hrůša, the orchestra continues to push the boundaries of classical music, exploring new repertoire and collaborating with some of the world's most exciting soloists.
