Belnick's parents were both musicians, and they encouraged him to pursue music from a young age. He began playing the violin at the age of four and showed exceptional talent from the start. Belnick's family moved to Los Angeles when he was six years old, and he continued his music education there. He studied with some of the best violin teachers in the city, including Naoum Blinder and Louis Persinger. Belnick's talent was evident, and he quickly gained recognition as a prodigy. In 1945, Belnick was accepted into the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied with Efrem Zimbalist. He graduated in 1949 and immediately began his professional career as a violinist. Belnick joined the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra as a section violinist, where he played for two years before moving to Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, Belnick became a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, where he played for over 30 years. He was known for his exceptional technique and musicality, and he quickly became one of the most respected violinists in the orchestra. Belnick also played with other orchestras, including the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Belnick's career was marked by many highlights, including his performances as a soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. He performed many of the great violin concertos, including those by Beethoven, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky. Belnick was also a sought-after chamber musician and played with many of the world's leading ensembles, including the Budapest Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. In addition to his work as a performer, Belnick was also a respected teacher. He taught at the University of Southern California and the California Institute of the Arts, where he mentored many young musicians who went on to have successful careers in music. Belnick's contributions to the world of music were recognized with many awards and honors. He was a recipient of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Lifetime Achievement Award, and he was also awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Curtis Institute of Music. Belnick was also a member of the American String Quartet Society and the American Federation of Musicians. Belnick's legacy as a musician and teacher continues to inspire generations of musicians. He passed away on February 21, 2010, at the age of 80, but his music lives on through his recordings and the many musicians he mentored throughout his career.
