Artist Info

Richard Anderson was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Anderson showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Anderson's parents recognized his talent and enrolled him in the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division when he was just six years old. There, he studied under renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky and quickly became one of the school's most promising students. As Anderson grew older, he continued to excel in his studies and began to gain recognition as a talented pianist. In 2003, he won first prize in the International Piano Competition in Paris, France, and was invited to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City. Over the next few years, Anderson continued to perform at major venues around the world, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Sydney Opera House. He also began to receive numerous awards and accolades for his performances, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2008 and the Gilmore Artist Award in 2012. Despite his success, Anderson remained dedicated to his studies and continued to work tirelessly to improve his craft. He spent countless hours practicing and studying under some of the world's most renowned pianists, including Martha Argerich and Vladimir Ashkenazy. In addition to his solo performances, Anderson also collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff, and his performances were praised for their technical precision and emotional depth. Throughout his career, Anderson remained committed to promoting classical music and inspiring the next generation of musicians. He frequently gave masterclasses and workshops for young pianists and served as a mentor to many aspiring musicians. Sadly, Anderson's career was cut short when he passed away unexpectedly in 2016 at the age of 31. However, his legacy lives on through his recordings and the countless musicians he inspired throughout his career. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest pianists of his generation and a true ambassador for classical music.
