He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. Estournet showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He was a prodigious talent and quickly became known for his exceptional musical abilities. Estournet's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began studying at the Paris Conservatory at the age of ten and quickly distinguished himself as one of the most promising young musicians of his generation. He studied under some of the most renowned music teachers of the time, including Nadia Boulanger and Marcel Dupré. Estournet's talent was not limited to the piano. He was also an accomplished composer and conductor. He composed his first piece of music at the age of 12 and went on to write numerous works for piano, orchestra, and chamber ensembles. He also conducted many orchestras throughout his career, including the Paris Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Estournet's career as a performer began in earnest in the 1940s. He made his debut as a soloist with the Paris Symphony Orchestra in 1943 and quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. He performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States, playing in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. One of the highlights of Estournet's career was his performance at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. He was chosen to represent France at the fair and performed a series of concerts that were widely acclaimed. His performance at the fair helped to cement his reputation as one of the greatest pianists of his time. Estournet was also a prolific recording artist. He recorded numerous albums throughout his career, including many of the great works of classical music. His recordings were widely praised for their technical excellence and musical sensitivity. Estournet received many awards and honors throughout his career. He was awarded the Legion of Honor, one of France's highest honors, in 1963. He was also awarded the Grand Prix du Disque, one of the most prestigious awards in the recording industry, for his recording of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 in 1965. Estournet continued to perform and record throughout his career, even as he battled health problems in his later years. He died on December 23, 1983, at the age of 62.
