Galya Kolarova is a Bulgarian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her exceptional talent and musicality. Born on May 5, 1985, in Sofia, Bulgaria, Kolarova showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Her parents, both music teachers, recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Kolarova's early musical education was at the National School of Music "Lyubomir Pipkov" in Sofia, where she studied with renowned Bulgarian pianist and pedagogue, Prof. Stella Dimitrova-Maistorova. She continued her studies at the National Academy of Music "Pancho Vladigerov" in Sofia, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance under the guidance of Prof. Milena Mollova. In 2007, Kolarova moved to the United States to pursue further studies at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. There, she studied with renowned pianist and pedagogue, Prof. Boris Slutsky, and earned a Master's degree in Piano Performance in 2009. She continued her studies at the Peabody Institute and earned a Graduate Performance Diploma in 2011. Kolarova's talent and dedication to her craft have earned her numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2004, she won first prize at the National Piano Competition "Svetoslav Obretenov" in Provadia, Bulgaria. In 2006, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Young Virtuosos" in Sofia, Bulgaria. In 2009, she was a finalist in the International Piano Competition "Parnassos" in Monterrey, Mexico. In 2010, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Citta di Barletta" in Barletta, Italy. In 2011, she was a finalist in the International Piano Competition "Premio Citta di Imola" in Imola, Italy. Kolarova's performances have taken her to some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. She has performed as a soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra, the Monterrey Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, among others. She has also given recitals in Bulgaria, the United States, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Mexico. One of Kolarova's most memorable performances was her debut with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 2008, where she performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 under the baton of conductor Marin Alsop. The performance was praised by critics for its "poise, elegance, and technical brilliance" and established Kolarova as a rising star in the classical music world. In addition to her performing career, Kolarova is also a dedicated teacher and has taught piano at the Peabody Preparatory, the Baltimore School for the Arts, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She is currently on the faculty of the Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C. Kolarova's repertoire is diverse and includes works by classical composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Brahms, as well as contemporary composers such as Ligeti, Messiaen, and Adams.
