Claire Guimond is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of Baroque music. She was born in Montreal, Canada, in 1956, and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. Her father was a music teacher, and her mother was a pianist. From a young age, Claire showed a keen interest in music, and her parents encouraged her to pursue her passion. Claire began her musical education at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec, where she studied the flute. She later went on to study at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich, Germany, where she honed her skills under the tutelage of renowned flutist Aurèle Nicolet. During her time in Munich, Claire also had the opportunity to study with other notable musicians, including harpsichordist Gustav Leonhardt and flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal. After completing her studies, Claire returned to Canada and began her career as a professional musician. She quickly established herself as a leading performer in the Baroque music scene, and her virtuosic playing and expressive interpretations earned her critical acclaim. In 1981, she founded the ensemble Les Boréades de Montréal, which specializes in Baroque music and has since become one of the most respected ensembles of its kind in Canada. Over the course of her career, Claire has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, and the Lincoln Center in New York. She has also collaborated with many of the world's leading Baroque musicians, including Jordi Savall, William Christie, and Ton Koopman. In addition to her work as a performer, Claire is also a respected teacher and has taught at several institutions, including McGill University in Montreal and the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany. She has also given masterclasses and workshops around the world, sharing her knowledge and expertise with aspiring musicians. Throughout her career, Claire has received numerous awards and accolades for her contributions to the world of classical music. In 1990, she was awarded the Prix Opus for Best Soloist of the Year by the Conseil québécois de la musique. In 2003, she was made a Knight of the National Order of Quebec, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a citizen of the province. In 2016, she was awarded the Prix Denise-Pelletier, the highest honor for the arts in Quebec. Despite her many achievements, Claire remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform and teach, and her passion for Baroque music is as strong as ever. Her contributions to the world of classical music have been significant, and she has inspired countless musicians and music lovers around the world.
