The ensemble started with a core group of 12 musicians, but has since expanded to include up to 30 musicians for larger performances. The Hamburger Camerata has collaborated with many renowned soloists, including pianist Martha Argerich, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. One of the highlights of the Hamburger Camerata's career was their performance at the 1994 Salzburg Festival, where they performed Mozart's "Gran Partita" under the baton of conductor Sir Neville Marriner. The ensemble has also been involved in several innovative projects, such as their "Bach in the Dark" series, where they performed Bach's music in complete darkness to create a unique sensory experience for the audience.
