Wolfgang Lendle was born on January 27, 1975, in Vienna, Austria. He was born into a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Lendle was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Lendle's talent was quickly recognized, and he began performing in public at the age of six. He won his first competition at the age of eight and went on to win numerous awards throughout his childhood and teenage years. In 1993, Lendle was accepted into the prestigious Vienna Conservatory, where he studied under some of the most renowned piano teachers in the world. He graduated with honors in 1997 and began his professional career as a concert pianist. Lendle quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented and dynamic pianists of his generation. He was known for his technical virtuosity, his expressive playing, and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. Lendle's career took off in the early 2000s, and he began performing in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls. He made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2002, and his performance was met with critical acclaim. He went on to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Sydney Opera House, among many other venues. Lendle's repertoire was vast and included works by some of the greatest composers in history, including Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Liszt. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Franz Schubert, and his recordings of Schubert's piano sonatas are considered some of the best ever made. In addition to his solo performances, Lendle was also a sought-after chamber musician. He frequently collaborated with other musicians, including violinists, cellists, and other pianists, and his performances were always marked by a deep sense of musicality and sensitivity to his fellow performers. Throughout his career, Lendle won numerous awards and accolades. He was a recipient of the prestigious International Piano Competition in Leeds, England, and was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art in 2010. He was also a regular guest on radio and television programs, where he shared his insights into the music he loved. Tragically, Lendle's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2015. He continued to perform and record despite his illness, and his final recordings are considered some of his most moving and powerful. Lendle passed away on June 15, 2017, at the age of 42. He left behind a legacy as one of the greatest pianists of his generation, and his recordings and performances continue to inspire and move audiences around the world.
